The issues of HIV/AIDS are well propagated and need no introduction. It’s time we take a different approach to elevate the level of awareness program from the present informative and educative to participative.
The current increase in the epidemic proves that previous efforts have failed to reach a desired parameter. Today, we are not lack of information and knowledge. Yet, globally, millions of dollars are still being spent advocating on repeated awareness and prevention programs.
Over the years, we have created too many non-cost effective HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention campaigns. If any of these highly celebrated programs were successful, the epidemic should decline and well arrested within the desired parameters. It is obvious that the money spent has failed to achieve a satisfactory level of success.
We cannot prevent smoking or stop sexual activities or vices of such nature, but if a simple degree of social responsibility can be practiced by every single individual; we can reduce the parameters of the spread. While billions of dollars have been spent in our attempt to advocate the seriousness of HIV/AIDS and in our pursuit to find a cure, the root of the problem which is prevention should now be boldly addressed and encouraged at the blood test level.
